Lehu and I took a field trip today. We went to Andersonville to visit our local feminist bookstore, Women & Children First. I'm not going to lie to you and say I'm not a feminist, because I am...but I don't want you to misunderstand. I'm not militant about this, and I don't hate men. In fact, many of my closest friends are men (ha ha ha).
Nevertheless, I do love a little independent bookstore with titles that appeal to queer types and other like minded individuals... but what we buy at these bookstores is not particularly revolutionary. I love Ellen Hart's Jane Lawless Mysteries. Lehu introduced me to them when we first met (12 plus years ago), and I've read every one. I am careful not to get too far ahead, then I'll have to buy the hard cover or feel like I am missing something. Fortunately, today there was one paperback, Iron Girl, and one hard cover (to buy when it comes out in paperback). Hooray! I've had a hard time focusing on reading and this might be just the ticket to get me reading again.
Lehu got The Girl with the Golden Bouffant: An Original Jane Bond Parody by Mabel Maney, who also authored Kiss the Girls and Make them Spy and the Nancy Clue and Hardly Boys mystery series. On the back of the book it says, "Miss Bond, your brother's shenanigans have put the queen in a prickly position..."
And, just so you know, Lehu made a point of saying, "hey, I don't think I signed a release for you to use my photo." I have, therefore, obscured her face to protect her top secret identity.

Ha! We both recognized her! That's a pretty fun bookstore, huh?
ReplyDeleteLeHu asks that next time you obscure her double chin :-)
ReplyDeleteHey, I read Kiss the Girls and Make Them Spy years ago; it was hilarious. Let me know how you like Girl with the Golden Bouffant; never got to read that one.
ReplyDeleteI thought those were pretty funny sunglasses... Heeheehee!
ReplyDeleteLeHu is one funny woman! You should be able to paintbrush out any thing she asks you to "handle". I wish there was a store closer to me, "sigh", that means a trip into the lesbian mecca....wait, why am I complaining? That could lead to wooing....plotting next trip to mecca now....please send more titles that I can ask for.....
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great bookstore! I love the name of it.
