To Whom It May Concern:
I have decided after nearly 7 balls of lovely yarn, each neatly joined and knitted lovingly, to rip out the Lemon nee Blueberry nee Tomato. I now have one big ball of yarn and two smaller ones to show for all the work I've done.
But I've learned a lot. And, the top around the shoulders was too loose. Gauge is my friend, gauge is my friend. Do friends lie to me? I hope not. So, I need to rectify this relationship. I have done so by starting over and I will have a good chat with Gauge when I get home tonight.
And then, I found myself online -- shopping for yarn (GASP). I bought Blue Sky Alpacas Dyed Cotton in Tomato and one skein of Cumin. Hmmm. Ahem. I have decided that I really want to make a cardigan from the Blue Tweedy stuff which knits up very very nicely. And, I want to use the yarn that the pattern for the tomato recommended. Plus red's a good color on me - so I've been told.
So, I have made my compromise - Gauge - what part will you play?

Yes CKG, Guage is your friend. She is a demanding friend, but a friend in deed.
ReplyDeleteI have found that if I want to sub yarn that I buy one skein of the "chosen" yarn and make a swatch. I then wash, block, and dry said swatch. I repeat the process until I get the guage called for, or I frog it and go back to the LYS trolling for another yarn.
I loved the Blue Sky yarn. The tank I made stretched a bit, but I am contemplating steeking and making actually darts or princess seams to make it a little more fitted. It is the yummiest yarn as far as cotton goes.
I can't wait to see the cardigan....
I find Gauge likes a glass of wine or two...this might be why I like to make scarves, and dishclothes. :)
